Day 25: Today's song is Gunche Lage Hain Kehne by Shailendra Singh - Taraana (1979)

It is day 25, and today's song is Gunche Lage Hain Kehne by Shailendra Singh. The song may not be a very popular song, but it was a hit back then, I think the radio played it a lot, or we had a cassette tape at home which is where I heard this song. One of those is likely the reason I know this song. The song is from the 1979 movie Taraana, directed by Deepak Bahry. Music composed by Raam-Laxman, and lyrics written by Ravindra Rawal.

This is my first Shailendra Singh song in this series of 300 songs, one per day. It is day 25 and 275 more to go.

So here it is:

Lyrics:
Goonche lage hain kahane
Foolon se bhee sunaa hain taraanaa pyaar kaa
Kahataa hain dil aa ke mil o meree zindagee
Tanahaa naa beet jaaye
Din bahaar kaa

Abhee abhee ek hawaa kaa zonkaa
Yaad teree le aayaa
Yaad ke saajon par dil ne
Ek pareet kaa geet sunaayaa
Abhee abhee ek hawaa kaa zonkaa
Yaad teree le aayaa
Yaad ke saajon par dil ne
Ek pareet kaa geet sunaayaa
O meree dilarubaa sun le jaraa
Kahataa hain dil tuj se ye kyaa afasaanaa

Goonche lage hain kahane
Foolon se bhee sunaa hain taraanaa pyaar kaa
Kahataa hain dil  aa ke mil o meree zindagee
Tanahaa naa beet jaaye
Din bahaar kaa

Dilabar mere dil mein kyaa hain
Too jo ise sun letee
Mere sang jeewan ke
Kitane sapane too boon letee
Dilabar mere dil mein kyaa hain
Too jo ise sun letee
Mere sang jeewan ke
Kitane sapane too boon letee
O meree dilarubaa too ban shamaa
Aaur dekh jaa jalataa huaa parawaanaa

Goonche lage hain kahane
Foolon se bhee sunaa hain taraanaa pyaar kaa
Kahataa hain dil  aa ke mil o meree zindagee
Tanahaa naa beet jaaye
Din bahaar kaa.

21. It is day 21, and today's song is the oldest bollywood song I know of, Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya by K.L. Saigal

It is said that it takes a minimum of 21 days to form a new habit. Today is day 21 of my one Bollywood classic song per day for 300 days, and today's song is the oldest Bollywood song that I know of, Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya sung by K.L. Saigal. A very old song! From before most of us was born, in fact it from before India got it's independence from the British empire rule. The song is from the 1946 movie Shahjehan, directed by A.R. Kardar. This song's music is composed by Naushad, and lyrics written by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

So here is my rendition of this song:
Chords: Post link to a good site that has chords for this song.
Lyrics:
Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya
Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya
Hum Ji Ke Kya Karege
Hum Ji Ke Kya Karege
Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya
Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya

Ulafat Ka Diyaa Hamane
Is Dil Mein Jalaya Tha
Ulafat Ka Diyaa Hamane
Is Dil Mein Jalaya Tha
Ummid Ke Phoolo Se
Is Ghar Ko Sajaayaa Tha
Ummid Ke Phoolo Se
Is Ghar Ko Sajaayaa Tha
Ik Bhedi Loot Gayaa
Ik Bhedi Loot Gayaa
Hum Ji Ke Kya Karege
Hum Ji Ke Kya Karege
Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya

Maalum Na Tha Itani,
Mushkil Hai Meri Raahe
Mushkil Hai Meri Raahe
Maalum Na Tha Itani,
Mushkil Hai Meri Raahe
Mushkil Hai Meri Raahe
Aramaa Ke Bahe Aansoo
Hasarat Ki Bhari Aahe
Aramaa Ke Bahe Aansoo
Hasarat Ki Bhari Aahe
Har Sathi Chhut Gaya
Har Sathi Chhut Gaya
Hum Ji Ke Kya Karege
Hum Ji Ke Kya Karege
Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya.

Day 20 of 300: Today's song is Tere Mere Sapne by Mohammed Rafi - Guide (1965)

It is day 20 of 300, and today's song is Tere Mere Sapne Ab Ek Rang Hai by Mohammed Rafi from the 1965 hit movie Guide, directed by Vijay Anand, and based on R. K. Narayan's 1958 novel The Guide. I saw this movie a few times in the last couple years, including the English version, which of course has no songs, but extremely very well made.

The Song Tere Mere Sapne Ab Ek Rang Hai was picturized with Dev Anand as the protagonist. Music direction is by my all time Bollywood favorite, S.D. Burman. Yes, he was before my time growing up in India, but I must say his music has been my favorite of all Bollywood music composers. The lyrics of this song was written by the great Shailendra. Beautiful love song. Your dreams and my dreams are now in sync, colored the same color.

So here is my rendition of the song:
Chordshttp://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/
Lyrics:
tere mere sapne abb ek rang hain
ho jaha bhi le jaye raahe, ham sang hain
ho tere mere sapne abb ek rang hain
ho jaha bhi le jaye raahe, ham sang hain

mere tere dil ka, tay tha ek din milna
jaise bahar aane par, tay hain phul ka khilna
mere tere dil ka, tay tha ek din milna
jaise bahar aane par, tay hain phul ka khilna
o mere jivan sathi
tere mere sapne abb ek rang hain
ho jaha bhi le jaye raahe, ham sang hain

tere dukh abb mere, mere sukh abb tere
tere yeh do naina, chand aur suraj mere
tere dukh abb mere, mere sukh abb tere
tere yeh do naina, chand aur suraj mere
o mere jivan sathi
tere mere sapne abb ek rang hain
ho jaha bhi le jaye raahe, ham sang hain

lakh mana le duniya, saath na yeh chhutega
aa ke mere hatho me, haath na yeh chhutega
lakh mana le duniya, saath na yeh chhutega
aa ke mere hatho me, haath na yeh chhutega
o mere jivan sathi
tere mere sapne abb ek rang hain
ho jaha bhi le jaye raahe, ham sang hain
ho tere mere sapne abb ek rang hain

15. Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar by Jagjit Singh for day 15 of 300.

It's day 15, and today's song is a song I used to hear when one of my class mates at the university used to sing it very often. He was not much of a singer, but he loved the song and sang it very often. I will always remember him.

The song is actually a ghazal titled Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar sung by and music direction by Jagjit Singh. Lyrics by Kaifi Azmi. The song is from a hit 1982 artsy movie titled Arth, directed by Mahesh Bhatt.

It is day 15 of 300, and I am only beginning to learn the art of singing classic Bollywood songs.

So, here is a rendition:
Chordstabs.ultimate-guitar.com
Lyrics:

Jhuki Jhuki see nazar bekaraar hai ki naheen
dabaa dabaa saa sahee dil mein pyaar hai ki naheen

tu apne dil ki jawaan dhadkanon ko gin ke bataa
meri tarah teraa dil bekaraar hai ki naheen
dabaa dabaa saa sahee dil mein pyaar hai ki naheen
Jhuki Jhuki see nazar...

wo pal ke jis mein mohabbat jawaan hotee hain
us eik pal kaa tujhe intezaar hai ke naheen
dabaa dabaa saa sahee dil mein pyaar hai ki naheen
Jhuki Jhuki see nazar...

teri umeed pe thukaraa rahaa hoon duniya ko
tujhe bhee apne pe ye aitabaar hain ki naheen.
dabaa dabaa saa sahee dil mein pyaar hai ki naheen
Jhuki Jhuki see nazar...

14. Today is day 14, and I am singing today a much unkown song titled Neele Ambar Ke Tale by Yesudas

Day 14 of 300 and today has been a day I took a day off from the daily routine, and spent some time learning and singing some classic Bollywood songs that I have known from listening to them in my childhood days. I am learning. The more I learn the more I know how much more I have to learn to even begin to sound near as good as the classic Bollywood playback singers who sang those awesome classic songs so amazingly beautiful; evergreen songs.

Today's song is a somewhat not very well know song, titled Neele Ambar Ke Tale, sung by Yesudas, from the 1977 Basu Chatterjee movie, Safed Jhooth. Music direction by Shyamal Mitra and lyrics by Yogesh Gaud.

Honestly, even though I know the song from childhood, I never knew of the movie Safed Jhooth until today. It is classified a comedy movie. So, I think I am going to watch this movie tonight. I like Basu Chatterjee's movies. Good ones!

Anyways, here is my rendition of this Yesudas song:

Chords: post the link in the comment if you know a site which has chords for this song.
Lyrics
 Neele ambar ke tale
 Do yahan saathi mile
Jhalake jhalake aramaan milaake lekar basane ghar chale
 Neele ambar ke tale

 Har ghadi bin raina
 Chain ab ae na
Man kahe mera saathi ab kahin jae na
Ye milan mein koi ab sham na dhale
 Neele ambar ke tale ...

Zindagi mein aise din kabhi ate hain
Rasmon ke bandhan mein meet bandh jaate hain
Phir mahake uthe hain tan ke phool khile
 Neele ambar ke tale ...

12. A song by Lata Mangeshkar, the 12th day song is Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahan Jaiyega

It is day 12, and today's song is titled Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahan Jaiyega, sung by the legandary great Lata Mangeshkar. This song is from the 1965 movie Arzoo, directed by Ramanand Sagar. Music direction by Shankar Jaikishan and lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri.

There is not much I know either about the movie or the song, except the fact that I heard someone sing this song in the recent times and I remembered listening to this song somewhere, either on radio or TV, as a child. I decided I like the song and I decided to do this for day 12 song.

So here is my rendition of this song:
Chords: if you know of a good link to chords for this song, please comment.
Lyrics
Aji ruth kar ab kaha jaiyega
jaha jaiyega hame paiyega.
Aji ruth kar ab kaha jaiyega
Jaha jaiyega hame paiyega
aji ruth kar ab
nigaho se chhupkar dikhao to jane
khayalo me bhi tum na aao to jane
aji lakh pardo me chhup jaiyega
aji lakh pardo me chhup jaiyega
nazar aiyega nazar aiyega
aji ruth kar ab kaha jaiyega
jaha jaiyega hame paiyega
aji ruth kar ab
jo dil me hai hoto pe lana bhi mushkil
magar usko dil me chhupana bhi mushkil
nazar ki zuban se samajh jaiyega
nazar ki zuban se samajh jaiyega
samajh kar zara gaur farmaiyega
aji ruth kar ab kaha jaiyega
jaha jaiyega hame paiyega
aji ruth kar ab
ye kaisa nasha hai ye kaisa asar hai
na kabu me dil hai na bas me nazar hai
jara hosh aane ke le jaiyega
jara hosh aane ke le jaiyega
thehar jaiyega thehar jaiyega
aji ruth kar ab kaha jaiyega
jaha jaiyega hame paiyega
aji ruth kar ab kaha jaiyega
jaha jaiyega hame paiyega
aji ruth kar ab

10. 'Tis 10 days, Woh Kagaz Ki Kashti by Jagjit Singh is today's song, 290 more days to go

It is day 10, posting one song per day for 300 days.
Bollywood Hindi Classic film songs, which I heard as a little boy playing on the radio, or music player, and later-on on TV are only a few Hindi movie songs that I really know. Life it seems has brought me a full circle. Since high school and after, I mostly listened to rock n roll music. Beatles, Police, Abba, and mix tapes of classic hard rock hits by AC/DC, Scorpions, MSG, etc., is what I mostly was listening to back then while I was learning to play guitar.
Fast forward to now, thanks to Corona, life has brought me back to the old Hindi songs I used to listen to. Thanks to technology and internet, I am able to learn and sing those songs that I had mostly listened to as a child and hardly ever sang them. One thing leading to another, 10 days ago I decided to learn and post one Bollywood classic Hindi song per day for 300 days, so here I am, and it's only day 10.

Today's song is Woh Kagaz Ki Kashti sung by Jagjit Singh, who also gave the music. The awesome amazing lyrics are by Sudarshan Faakir. The song is from the 1987 movie Aaj, directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Akshay Kumar made his first screen appearance in the film, under his birth name Rajiv Bhatia.

So here is my rendition of this awesome meaningful yet light hearted song.
Lyrics:
Yeh Daulat Bhi Le Lo,
Yeh Shohrat Bhi Le Lo,
Bhale Chheen Lo Mujhse Se Meri Jawani,
Magar Mujhko Lauta Do bachpan Ka Sawan..
Wo Kagaz Ki Kashti, wo Baarish Ka Paani..

Muhalle Ki Sabse Purani Nishani,
Wo Budhia Jise Bachche Kehte The Naani,
Wo Naani Ki Baaton Me Parion Ka Dera,
Wo Chehre Ki Jhurrion Me Sadiyon Ka pehra,
Bhulaye Nahin Bhul Sakta Hai Koi,
Bhulaye Nahin Bhool Sakta Hai Koi,
Wo Chhoti Si Raaten, Wo Lambi Kahani

Kadi Dhoop Me Apne Ghar Se Nikalna,
Wo Chidia Wo Bulbul Wo Titli Pakadna ,
Wo Gudia Ki Shaadi Pe Ladna jhagadna,
Wo Jhoolon Se Girna Wo Gir Ke Sambhalna,
Wo Peetal Ke Chhalon Ke Pyare Se Tohfe,
Wo Tooti Hui Choodion Ki Nishani
Wo Kagaz Ki Kashti Wo Baarish Ka Paani,

Kabhi Ret Ke Oonche teeloN Pe Jana
Gharonde Banana, Bana ke Mitana
Wo Masoom Chahat Ki Tasveer Apni
Wo KhwaboN KhilaunoN Ki Jaageer Apni
Na Duniya Ka Gam Tha Na RishtoN Ke Bandhan
Badi Khoobsurat Thi Wo Zindagani..

Yeh Daulat Bhi Le Lo,
Yeh Shohrat Bhi Le Lo,
Bhale Chheen Lo Mujhse Se Meri Jawani,
Magar Mujhko Lauta Do bachpan Ka Sawan..
Wo Kagaz Ki Kashti, wo Baarish Ka Paani..

Day 6: Today's song is Diye Jalte Hai Phool Khilte Hai by Kishore Kumar - Namak Haraam (1973)

Day 6, and today I am doing the song Diye Jalte Hain, Phool Khilte Hain. This song is sung my the great Kishore Kumar, and picturized with Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. This song is from a 1973 Bollywood Hindi movie Namak Haraam dirceted by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, one of my favorite directors, and Music direction by my favorite musician and favorite of many because he was one of the most creative and diverse musician in the industry, the one and only, R.D.Burman. Lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi who went on to write many great hits.

The lyrics of this song is profound, and it is a song about friends and friendship. The chorus of the songs roughly translates to: Lamps burn and flowers blossom, But in this world it's very hard to find friends.

A profound verse in this song translates to: Wealth and youth will go away one day, I'm telling the truth, the whole world becomes your enemy. But only friends walk with you for the entire life.

For complete and awesome translation of this song, visit: http://anondogaan.blogspot.com/2014/06/diye-jalte-hain-lyrics-translation.html

Lyrics:

Diye jalte hain phul khilte hain
Diye jalte hain phul khilte hain
Badi mushkil se magar
Duniya me dost milte hain
Diye jalte hain

Jab jis wakt kisi kaa
Pyar juda hota hai
Kuchh naa puchho yaro
Dil kaa hal bura hota hai
Dil pe yado ke jaise
Tir chalte hain ahan ha
Diye jalte hain phul
Khilte hain diye jalte hain

Iss rang rup pe dekho
Hargij naj naa karna
Jan bhi mange yar toh
De dena naraj naa karna
Rang ud jate hain dhup
Dhalte hain hmhmhm
Diye jalte hain phul
Khilte hain diye jalte hain

Daulat aur javani
Ek din kho jati hain
Sach kahata hu sari duniya
Dushman ho jati hai
Umr bhar dost lekin sath
Chalte hain hmmhm
Diye jalte hain phul khilte hain
Badi mushkil se magar
Duniya me dost milte hain
Diye jalte hain.

5. Yaari Hai Imaan Mera by Manna Dey - Zanjeer (1973) - Day 5 of the 1 song per day for 300 days

This is is day 5 of my self challenge of singing and posting one Bollywood Classic song per day for 300 days. So far so good. I must say I am learning to sing. I know I am not the best singers, and I know my recordings I am posting are not always 100% perfect. But at least I am happy with my progress.
I record the entire song in one take, using my basic apple white headset on my ipad. So nothin fancy here.

Today's song is tiled Yaari Hai Imaan Mera Yaar Meri Zindagi, sung by Manna Dey, a hit song from the 1973 blockbuster movie Zanjeer, starring Amitabh Bachchan. This song was picturized with Pran. This movie launched the image of "the angry young man" that the super star Amitabh Bachchan cherished most of the rest of his career. The movie was directed by Prakash Mehra. Music direction by Kalyanji-Anandji, and lyrics by Gulsha Bawra. This combination of this Lyricist, Music Director and Movie Director went on to produce several hit movies and songs in the years to come. The rest is history.

This is my rendition of this song. Please forgive my flaws.
