Thanks to COVID to be able to do this from home in Nashville TN.
Born & raised in India, I mostly listened to western rock, blues, punk, reggae & jazz.
I challenged myself to learn & sing old Hindi songs which, as a child, I used to hear at home on classic radio or TV.
Recorded live, one take, no edits, with backing track, or with an acoustic guitar.

What to say about this ghazal. One of the top hits of Jagjit Singh songs.
I am in no way attempting to emote the original. Just doing it how it comes to me when singing in a lower register than preferred.

The movie was a hit, and this song was a bigger hit and launched Jagjit Singh's career.

This has to be one of the most popular ghazals by Jagjit Singh. Great song! The movie is a really good movie too, vert artsy. One of Mahesh Batt's top movies, IMHO.
It's day 15, and today's song is a song I used to hear when one of my class mates at the university used to sing it very often. He was not much of a singer, but he loved the song and sang it very often. I will always remember him.

Bollywood Hindi Classic film songs, which I heard as a little boy playing on the radio, or music player, and later-on on TV are only a few Hindi movie songs that I really know. Life it seems has brought me a full circle. Since high school and after, I mostly listened to rock n roll music. Beatles, Police, Abba, and mix tapes of classic hard rock hits by AC/DC, Scorpions, MSG, etc., is what I mostly was listening to back then while I was learning to play guitar.
Fast forward to now, thanks to Corona, life has brought me back to the old Hindi songs I used to listen to. Thanks to technology and internet, I am able to learn and sing those songs that I had mostly listened to as a child and hardly ever sang them. One thing leading to another, 10 days ago I decided to learn and post one Bollywood classic Hindi song per day for 300 days, so here I am, and it's only day 10.
Today's song is Woh Kagaz Ki Kashti sung by Jagjit Singh, who also gave the music. The awesome amazing lyrics are by Sudarshan Faakir. The song is from the 1987 movie Aaj, directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Akshay Kumar made his first screen appearance in the film, under his birth name Rajiv Bhatia.
So here is my rendition of this awesome meaningful yet light hearted song.
