Learn and Sing 1 Bollywood Classic Hindi Song per day for 300 days, that is what I did. 300 PLUS songs recorded.
Thanks to COVID to be able to do this from home in Nashville TN.
Born & raised in India, I mostly listened to western rock, blues, punk, reggae & jazz.
I challenged myself to learn & sing old Hindi songs which, as a child, I used to hear at home on classic radio or TV.
Recorded live, one take, no edits, with backing track, or with an acoustic guitar.

kismat teri reet nirali, kismat teri reet nirali
o chaliye ko chalane wali, phool khila to tuti daali

It is day 56, and I am back after a week's break. I traveled to California to visit. I must say I am tired and sun burnt from playing out in the sun and trampoline with the 8 and 10 year old, but it was fun.
Today's song is Gore Gore O Banke Chore by Lata Mangeshkar & Amirbai Karnataki from the 1950 Bollywood movie Samadhi. Music is composed by C. Ramchandra, and lyrics written by Rajendra Krishan.
This song is a copy of the 1945 Spanish song Chico Chico from Puerto Rico. Chico meaning boy, or young man. Goes to show that Bollywood has been copying music from back in the day. Only in those days, and up until 1970s, they copied from Latin, Spanish and Italian music. All this time, until today I thought this was an original composition. Granted the verses melodies are original, but the hook...hmmm ;).

Lyrics:
mere man ki ganga aur tere man ki jamuna ka
bol raadha bol sangam hoga ki nahi
are bol raadha bol sangam hoga ki nahi
nahi, kabhi nahi
kitni sadiya beet gayi hai hay tujhe samjhaane me
mere jaisa dhiraj vaala hai koi aur zamaane me
man ka badhata bojh kabhi kam hoga ki nahi
bol raadha bol sangam hoga ki nahi
mere man ki ganga aur tere man ki jamuna ka
bol raadha bol sangam hoga ki nahi
are bol raadha bol sangam hoga ki nahi
jaa jaa
do nadiyo ka mel agar itna paavan kahlata hai
kyu na jaha do dil milte hai, svarg vaha bas jaata hai
har mausam hai pyaar ka mausam hoga ki nahi
bol raadha bol sangam hoga ki nahi
mere man ki ganga aur tere man ki jamuna ka
bol raadha bol sangam hoga ki nahi
are bol raadha bol sangam hoga ki nahi
teri khaatir main tarsa yu jaise dharati saavan ko
raadha raadha ek ratan hai saans ki aavan jaavan ko
It is day 28, and what an unusual day it has been.
Today my audio interface stopped working, and then a little later my iMac stopped booting. Argh! what a day! what a day! So, now I am having to tear down my home recording studio, and build a new setup. Oh! well. I guess it is time to upgrade, says the flow of events. So be it. :)
But, since I record this on my ipad with the earphones, I was able to record the song of the day and post, so I am glad.
Today's song is Humne Dekhi Hai Un Aankhon Ki Mehekti Khushbooby Lata Mangeshkar from the 1970 movie Khamoshi, directed by Asit Sen. Music composed by one of my top favorite music composers of classic Bollywood, Hemant Kumar (Hemanta Kumar Mukhopadhyay). Lyrics written by my all time favorite number one lyricist, Gulzar, the great. This song has talent oozing in all ways. A sweet, yet deep and profound song.

It is day 303 of 300, and today's song is a special song, Ghunghat Ke Pat Kholsung by Geeta Dutt from the 1950movieJogan directed by Kidar Nath Sharma. Music composed by Bulo C Rani, and lyrics written by non other than the bhakti movement saint Meera Bai.
I am so happy to be posting this song as a potential last song in this blog series, since I have completed my goal of singing and posting 300 songs. I am happy for multiple reasons:
I did 3 songs more than my target 300,
My last song is by my most favorite singer of all times Geeta Dutt.
This song is actually written by saint Meera Bai. so I feel blessed by her.
I feel blessed by the feminine powers of Geeta Di, Meera Bai, Maa Sarasvati and Maa Kali.
I remember watching this movie back in 2019 for the first time and I really loved it.
It took me more than 450 days to achieve the target and complete since I started it back at the end of Jan 2021. Will I post more songs in this series, I do not know.

Here it is, my rendition of the song with backing tracks (posted on April 21, 2022):
Today's song is Naam Gum Jayega sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Bhupendra Singh from the 1977 movie Kinara. The movie was written and directed by Gulzar. Lyrics by Gulzar, IMHO, the best lyricist in the history of Bollywood. Music was composed by the legendary great R.D.Burman, such a diverse musician who could rock out a song and as well write such an awesome indian classical based melody like this song Naam Gum Jayega, Chera Yeh Badal Jayega.
I know I am neither a great singer nor have a golden voice. So, with my average singing voice and abilities I attempt to sing this sing. I must say, it turned out to be not an easy song to learn, sing and emote the feelings, and do justice to the melody. it was quite a challenge.
Not sure what raga this song is based on, if you do, please comment.
