Learn and Sing 1 Bollywood Classic Hindi Song per day for 300 days, that is what I did. 300 PLUS songs recorded.
Thanks to COVID to be able to do this from home in Nashville TN.
Born & raised in India, I mostly listened to western rock, blues, punk, reggae & jazz.
I challenged myself to learn & sing old Hindi songs which, as a child, I used to hear at home on classic radio or TV.
Recorded live, one take, no edits, with backing track, or with an acoustic guitar.

Great movie! Has all great songs!
My father used to have a tape of all songs from this movie. As a child this was one of my favorite tapes to listen to.

It is day 280 of 300, and today's song is not a very well known song. In fact I only came across this song a few couple weeks ago. Listened to it countless number of times. Then I ended up watching the movie too. A very different movie created by Kishore Kumar. He even composed the music. Definitely not a mainstream movie.
Back in Jan 2021 I told myself that I will learn, song and post 300 classic Bollywood songs, and here I am on number 280. 20 more to go. Irrespective of anything, I am glad I kept my word to myself and come this far, so close to the finish line.
Once again, it is day 280 of 300 and today's song is Jeevan Se Na Haarsung by Kishore Kumar from the 1971 black and white movieDoor Ka Raahi directed and written by Kishore Kumar. Music composed by Kishore Kumar, and lyrics written by Irshad Jallali.
Also, more importantly, today is March 15th, and it is my mother's birthday. So I am happy to post this song this day. She has always been the pillar of strength for our family. When we were little we were a poor family with not much money or stuff, but my parents always made sure we have food, clothing, shelter, and most importantly gave us good education and sent us to good schools. My mother always gained her strength like it says in this song: Saath tere hai upar wala wahi hai tera rakhwala.
Thank you Mother and Happy birthday.
My rendition of this song is for the entire family:

Raag: ? (comment if you know)
Taal: Kaherava
Just last night I was watching this movie, but I did not complete it. I fell asleep just before close to the ending. Interesting story, different from typical Bollywood movies. #Bindu should have gotten award for this movie, but she did not. In fact she was nominated several times early in her career for awards, but did not win any. I feel she was a good actress but type casted into a role for the rest of her life.
The songs in the movie are all average, except this song. This song has become almost an anthem for the jilted lovers.
It is day 275 and today' song is Chhod Babul Ka Gharsung by Shamshad Begum from the 1950movieBabul directed by S.U. Sunny, and produced by Naushad. Music composed by Naushad, and lyrics written by Shakeel Badayuni.
Raag: Pahadi
Taal: Kaherava
I don't know much about the movie at all. I have not watched it, and reading the plot and review, I am not sure I am too intrigued to watch it.
The singer Shamshad Begum was a pioneer. She was before any of the popular female singers that mainstream people mostly know of. She did not have a long career. She retired early and lived a secluded family life. She was not like the one or two very famous Bollywood singers from those times who played politics to make sure the music directors did not give chance to other singers but them. Hats off to Shamshad Begum, a true human being.
It is day 273 and today's song is Mera Sundar Sapna Beet Gayasung by Geeta Dutt from the 1947movieDo Bhai directed by Munshi Dil. Music composed by S.D. Burman, and lyrics written by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan.
Raag: Bilawal
Taal: Kaherava
I love Geeta Di. even though she is way way before my time, she has been instrumental in my learning Bollywood songs. And S.D. Burman dadoo, is THE best music composer of all time in Bollywood, IMHO.
I do not know anything about this movie. I don't think I saw it. Not sure even if I can find a copy to watch.
1947 was the year India got it's independence from the British rule. So this movie is old old old. 75 years old. But it seems to be a mostly unanimous agreement with Indian people that old Hindi movie songs were the best ever, and nothing like that was and is ever produced since.
It is day 272 and today's song is Aaja Piya Tohe Pyar Doonsung by Lata Mangeshkar from the 1967movieBaharon Ke Sapne directed and produced by Nasir Hussain. Music composed by R.D. Burman, and lyrics written by Majrooh Sultanpuri.
It is day 271 and today's song is Munna Bada Pyarasung by Kishore Kumar from the 1957movieMusafir directed and written by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Music composed by Salil Chaudhury, and lyrics written by Shailendra.
It is day 270 of 300. almost there to 300 songs. Some songs came out better than others. Some recordings I can forget, some I am happy I am learning. It was back in Jan 2021, in the peak of #COVID #pandemic, I decided to learn, record and post 300 #Bollywood classic Hindi songs. All songs are recorded with backing track I found on apps like #smule or #starmaker, singing live into my Apple iPad, one take, no editing or pitch correction. So, like I said, some songs came out not bad, and some came out forgettable. After all, neither I am a trained singer, nor blessed with a great voice. I am only learning.
It is day 270, and today's song is Likhe Jo Khat Tujhesung by Mohammed Rafi from the 1968movieKanyadaan directed by Mohan Segal and produced by Rajendra Bhatia. Music composed by Shankar Jaikishan, and lyrics written by Neeraj.
It is day 269 and today's song is a duet, O Mere Sanamsung by Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar from the 1964 hit movieSangam, directed and produced by Raj Kapoor. Music composed by Shankar Jaikishan, and lyrics written by Shailendra.
It is day 267 and today's song is Sau Baar Janam Lengesung by Mohammed Rafi from the 1963movieUstadon Ke Ustad directed by Brij. Music composed by Ravi, and lyrics written by Asad Bhopali.
Perhaps not a popular movie. I know I have not watched this movie. But I know this song from listening to it on radio or in my father's music collection.
I realized yesterday that I have not been adding Raag or Taal to the songs, if applicable. I guess I can go back and retrofit that info to the songs I have already posted, as and when time permits.
It is day 266 and today's song is O Basanti Pawan Pagalsung by Lata Mangeshkar from the 1960movieJis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai directed by Radhu Karmakar and produced by Raj Kapoor. Music composed by Shankar Jaikishan, and lyrics written by Shailendra.
Among few other awards, this movie won the Filmfare awards that year for Best Film and Raj kapoor won the Best Actor award.
This is my first posting of a song sung by Lata Mangeshkar after she passed away on February 06, 2022. I can never forget the date because I was in India that day. I think it was late morning when I saw the news feed on my handheld device that she passed away.
Lataji was a legend of legends. The Nightingale of India. Easily the oldest of the singers, and a an icon. Rest in Peace Lataji. I touch her feet for her blessings always. She has been very instrumental in my learning Hindi Bollywood songs in the last couple years. I had not sung any Hindi songs since high school because after high school I was into rock n roll and only played rock music. Thanks to the Corona pandemic lockdown which brought me back to Bollywood classic songs, the songs that I knew from my childhood and from my father's music collections. I am so grateful.
