Learn and Sing 1 Bollywood Classic Hindi Song per day for 300 days, that is what I did. 300 PLUS songs recorded.
Thanks to COVID to be able to do this from home in Nashville TN.
Born & raised in India, I mostly listened to western rock, blues, punk, reggae & jazz.
I challenged myself to learn & sing old Hindi songs which, as a child, I used to hear at home on classic radio or TV.
Recorded live, one take, no edits, with backing track, or with an acoustic guitar.
It is day 144 and today's song is Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhata Chala Gayasung by Mohammed Rafi from the 1961movieHum Dono, directed by Amarjeet and produced by Dev Anand. Music composed by Jaidev and lyrics written by Sahir Ludhianvi.
This is one of my favorite songs. The lyrical content is so profound. Has a sufi-ana feel to it.

Here it is, my rendition of the song (posted on July 26, 2021):
It is day 116, and today's song is Wahan Kaun Hai Tera sung by S.D. Burman from the 1965 movie Guide, directed by Vijay Anand, and produced by Dev Anand. Music composed by the legendary, and my all time favorite S.D. Burman. Lyrics written by Shailendra.
I love this movie, one of my top favorite movies of all time.
I used to hear this song on the radio, or my father singing or humming. Those days of course I did not listen much to the lyrical content of the song, let alone understand. But in the last two years, thanks to covid-19, as I am listening to, learning and singing more and more classic Bollywood songs, I am getting to explore styles and signatures of different music composers and lyricists. Time and Time, S.D. Burman feels the best to me.

This is a sad song. Not sure I could emote that sad feeling that Kishore da could.
As far as the movie goes, I don't recall ever watching this movie. Perhaps I will watch it sometime in the next day or so.

It is day 26, and todays' song is Surmayee Ankhiyon Mein by Yesudas from the 1983 movie Sadma, directed by Balu Mahendra. This is a lullaby song, music of which is composed by the internationally renowned composer Illayaraja. Lyrics written by the great, and my personal favorite, Gulzar. Wah! What a combination of talent, variety and style.
Not an easy song to sing and emote the feel. I think I did an ok job of singing this song, certainly not even close to the original song. Such a good song. I love it.

So here it is, my fair rendition of this lori, lullaby (posted on Feb 22, 2021):
TWO HUNDRED songs so far that I learned, sang, recorded and posted on my YouTube channel.
When I started this back in January 2021, I was not sure how it was going to go.
In the pandemic lockdown, I was watching this movie Julie & Julia, which inspired me to decide to sing and post 300 distinct Bollywood classic songs. Songs that I used to listen to on the radio or TV as a kid. Some songs I knew mostly, many I only knew parts. Most of the songs I never ever sang in my life.
I started by using the Apple iPad headset for singing. You will see that in my older videos. After couple months of doing that, following an advice I was given, I decided to get a microphone and sing through that instead. It then started sounding better, and not to forget, it looks better too.
All songs are recorded in ONE take, and no pitch correction used. One mistake I make during recording be it audio or visual mistake, I have to stop and start all over again.
It is a very emotional moment for me today that I have reached 200 songs. 100 more to go.
Even though I am passionate about playing music and singing, unfortunately, my bad luck perhaps, but music always eluded me from becoming a profession or being successful. I know so many times I have failed wanting to do something with music, from attempting to form bands to attempting to produce good records.
In 2019 and 2020, I wrote, recorded and released 11 English songs. They are available ton youTube, Spotify etc.
Today's song, the 200th song is Jo Raah Chuni Tunesung by Kishore Kumar from the 1976movieTapasya directed by Anil Ganguly and produced by Tarachand Barjatya. Music composed by Ravindra Jain, and lyrics written by M.G. Hashmat.
The movie is one of the best in the industry, and Rakhee won the best actress Filmfare award that year.
I must watch the movie again, it has been forever.

It is day 284 and today's song is Mujhe Tumse Kuchh Bhi Na Chahiye sung by Mukesh from the 1959movieKanhaiya directed by Om Prakash (the actor). Music composed by Shankar Jaikishan, and lyrics written by Shailendra.
Raag: Darbari Kanada
Taal: Rupak
The movie is a great story written by Om Prakash that shows that God does not necessarily abode in gold, silver or opulent temple, or wear suit, boot and live in style. Rather, God is found in simple and unexpected places. Great movie! I feel I want to watch it again. I am a Raj Kapoor fan anyways, even though he was before my time.

It is day 27, and it feels good to keep at it, and it has been helpful learning. Day 27, and 273 more days to go. One Bollywood classic song per day for 300 days. Let's hope it keeps up. Only time will tell.
Anyways, today's song is Ek Akela Is Shaher Mein sung by Bhupinder Singh from the 1977 movie Gharaonda. The movie was directed by Bhimsain. Music composed by Jaidev Kumar, and the awesome lyrics of Gulzar, the great. Don't I love him. Such a great awesome lyricist and a story teller.

It is day 294, and today's song is Sur Na Sajesung by Manna Dey from the 1956movieBasant Bahar directed by Raja Nawathe. Music composed by Shankar Jaikishan, and lyrics written by Shailendra. One of the top songwriters trio in the industry ever. The other super tops are S.D. Burman, Majrooh Sultanpuri, and the one and only Gulzar the great! IMHO.
Raag: Pilu

A difficult song. Pardon my flaws. Definitely one of the most, if not the most difficult song I ever learned to sing in the list of 300 #bollywood #classic songs I have been doing, and now almost at the end of it. 294 of 300, 6 more to go to reach the goal.
I have not watched this movie Basant Bahar ever. Reading a brief synopsis of it on Wiki sounds like it is a very good movie to watch. Based on music. Music, I feel, is the ultimate language of the universe. I most certainly will watch this movie sometime soon.

It is day 23, and today's song is Zindagi Dene Wale Sun by Talat Mahmood. The song is from the 1953 movie Dil-E-Nadan, directed by A.R. Kardar. The music director was Ghulam Mohammed, with lyrics written by Shakeel Badayuni.
This is a smooth song sung by one of the smoothest singers in Bollywood.
It is only day 23, and I am only beginning to learn. Long way to go.

A timeless classic.
This song picturized as a romantic wooing song was written almost as a bhajan or prayer to God.

It turned out to be not a very easy song to sing since it needed smooth soft voice to emulate the emotion conveyed by the song. A perfect song for the Valentines day today, today.

Day 31 song is Na Chaahoon Sona Chaandi sung by Manna Dey and Shailendra Singh from the 1973 movie Bobby, directed by Raj Kapoor, music composed by Laxmikant Payarelal and lyrics written by Vithalbhai Patel.
The movie has a few some really good songs.
This song is not so popular I reckon, but it is a good song.
I have few memories in connection with this movie.
I am not even sure what the real title of this song is, Na mangoo sona chandi, or Na chahoon sona chandi?
