The movie earned 5 Filmfare awards that year including for best music director and best lyrics writer.
I personally feel these two are the best music/lyrics creator combination ever in Bollywood. Sometimes I imagine how it would have been if S.D. Burman and Gulzar worked together. Would have been mind blowing.
The movie is based on the 1980 novel Man, Woman and Child by Erich Segal, with an Indian twist in the end.
