Learn and Sing 1 Bollywood Classic Hindi Song per day for 300 days, that is what I did. 300 PLUS songs recorded.
Thanks to COVID to be able to do this from home in Nashville TN.
Born & raised in India, I mostly listened to western rock, blues, punk, reggae & jazz.
I challenged myself to learn & sing old Hindi songs which, as a child, I used to hear at home on classic radio or TV.
Recorded live, one take, no edits, with backing track, or with an acoustic guitar.

This is a sad song perfectly fits the mood of my day today. I had to drive out into the world last two days, see and meet people. It made me sad to see the state of the world. Along with other difficult situations of my life, I feel this is a perfect song for the day.

It is day 49 and today's song is O Re Mahji Mere Saajan Hain Us Paar composed and sung by S.D. Burman, and lyrics written by Shailendra. The song is from the 1963 movie Bandini, directed by Bimal Roy. I don't think I have seen this movie. I will watch it sometime.
S.D. Burman is my most favorite Bollywood music director of all times. Only recently, since the pandemic, I have learned that a lot of the classic Bollywood songs I know, were composed by S.D. Burman. I remember hearing these songs at home growing up, on the radio, or the music player.
Thanks to the pandemic, I have been learning to sing hindi songs from those songs that I remember from my childhood. That is when I realized, the most bliss is when singing songs composed by S.D. Burman. Beautifully awesome composer. I love S.D. Burman sahab.

It is day 24, and today's song is a song I remember quite well from my childhood. In fact, I remember watching the movie as a kid and liking this song, and I also remember tinkering with singing this song and trying to play it on my father's harmonium. Those were the days.
The song is titled Aapke Anurodh Pe, from the 1977 movie Anurodh, directed by Shakti Samanta. Music composed by the Laxmikant-Pyarelal, and lyrics written by Anand Bakshi. The trio of Kishore Kumar, Laxmikant-Pyarelal and Anand Bakshi went on to create many great hits in the history of Bollywood.

Such simple and great lyrics. Straight forward, but definitely ignored. Why do I say that? Just look at the state of the human world. Speak-the-truth only exists mostly on papers and not practiced. From organizations, corporations to politicians to day to people, many lie, just to gain financial profit. This reminds me of couple lines from another song:
Ab to Imaan dharam ki koi keemat hi nahi,
Jaise sach bolne walon ki zarurat hi nahi
Now, integrity and righteousness has no value at all,
As if truth speakers are not required at all

For day 2, I picked a song from 1960, a time before my time, and for many of you too this is possibly before your time. The song is titled Khoya Khoya Chand Khula Aasmaan, from the movie Kala Bazar, directed by Vijay Anand. The music director of this song is my all time Bollywood favorite musician, the legendary Mr. S.D.Burman. He’s the best IMHO. Lyrics written by Shailendra. The original singer of this beautiful song is none other than the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi, the great!
I love this song. This is just my humble attempt singing this song.
